We are on a mission to restore the heart of relationship.
Our Staff
Pastor Bob Hardin
Director & Lead Counselor
For over 18 years, Bob has been helping individuals, couples, teaching at seminars, and speaking at weekend marriage retreats. His journey to starting NWBCC began with 16 years as an engineer in the Aerospace industry. This profession took him all over the world and taught him communication, conflict resolution, and problem solving. During his time as an engineer, he also gained a deeper understanding around the idea that, no matter what someone’s background, location, etc, we all have commonalities in the challenges of life. This awareness increased his compassion and desire to make a difference in others’ lives. Bob decided to leave his engineering career to train as a counselor. He studied with the International Center for Biblical Counseling, Deeper Walk Ministries, Caring for the Heart, and counseling internships. He was ordained at Trinity Baptist Church in Renton, WA in 2002.
Laura Stearn
Office Administrator
Laura is the first, and central, contact point for those seeking counsel. She helps them through the process of submitting an application, scheduling the appointment, and assists with the preparations for their counseling time at NWBCC. Her graciousness and compassion has helped many find hope in the midst of very stressful times in their lives. In addition to assisting counselees and donors, Laura supervises volunteers, coordinates speaking engagements, and manages the day to day operations of the office.
Our Approach
The Bible is our foundation for understanding and resolving challenges. To facilitate freedom and maturity in someone’s life, we seek God’s guidance, by the Holy Spirit. We look to the truth as revealed in the Bible and bring each situation to God in prayer. Without a change of heart, there will not be a change in a life. See Our Beliefs for more information on our beliefs.
We firmly believe in the importance of learning from the past, yet leaving the past in the past. As issues are addressed through forgiveness, confession, and truth, many people have resolved lifelong struggles, received renewed hope, and experienced healing in relationships.
With each intensive, you also have the opportunity learn more about your personality through the lens of the Taylor Johnson Temperament Analysis (T-JTA); think of Myers Briggs to another level! It’s a quick, convenient method of measuring important personality traits that influence the relationships around you. We use this analysis method in our intensives to help you better understand yourself, and your spouse.
What is Intensive Counseling?
Intensive Counseling is where we take a deep dive into the core of your relationships. Over a series of consecutive days (see Services for additional details), we will look at how your past is affecting your life today, and how God can heal those areas. The word “intensive” refers to the method; we will dive deep quickly and in a short timeline.
Why do we focus on intensives, rather then the traditional weekly one-on-one sessions? We often wait till the last minute find help for our marriage/relationships; the struggles then progress to a deeply wounded place. The Intensive method allows the focus and time for root healing to occur.
Everyone has hurts that are holding them back from God’s best, and everyone can benefit from this method. Whether you’re needing a tune-up, or you have deep hurt to heal through, make the call. The sooner you seek out counsel, the better!
Our Beliefs
The Word of God
We believe that the Bible is the Word of God, fully inspired and without error, never misleading, written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and that it is the supreme and final authority in all matters of which it speaks.
The Trinity
We believe that in one true God, eternally existing in three persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. They are equal and each executes distinct but harmonious offices in the work of creation, redemption and providence. God exists separately from the universe He created, yet is present everywhere within it.
God the Father
We believe that God is the eternal Father who reigns over His created universe and all His creatures including mankind. He is all powerful, all knowing, all loving, and all wise. God is the Father of all who believe in Him through Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ
We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. He is genuine deity and genuine humanity in one person. His virgin birth and sinless life qualified Him to become the substitutionary, redemptive sacrifice for sin. He rose from the dead, ascended into heaven, constantly intercedes for His people, and will return to the world to judge the world and consummate redemption.
The Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit is the eternal Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, brings spiritual understanding, indwells the believer, guarantees the believer’s salvation, and empowers him for godly living, holy character, and effective service.
Salvation
We believe that all human beings are sinners by nature and by choice, and that sin has brought the entire human race under divine condemnation. Those who repent of their sins, believe in the shed blood and resurrection of Jesus, and trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are justified by grace and born again by the Holy Spirit.
The Church
We believe that the Church is the Body of Christ which includes all the redeemed of all the ages. The purpose of a local church is to proclaim the Gospel, help believers identify with Christ, equip believers for maturity and service, and to encourage each other toward love and good deeds.
Spiritual Maturity
We believe God’s purpose for all believers is to mature in Christ. Believers face daily opposition on three fronts: the flesh, the world system, and evil spirits over which Satan rules. For this reason, God’s design is that believers encourage and build each other up, working together toward maturity.
Satan and Demons
We believe Satan was created by God as the highest and sinless angel. He fell into sin, becoming completely depraved and evil in character/purpose. He is the enemy of God and of all believers. A host of angels followed him (demons). Satan and his demons were judged at the cross, and will be cast into the Lake of Fire for eternity.
Last Things
We believe in the personal, bodily, and visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe in the resurrection of the body, the judgment of believers’ works, the eternal joy of the righteous, and the final judgment of the wicked. We believe in the establishment of the new heaven and new earth.
